KraftMaid Driveway & Pavers: The Torrance Owner’s Guide
If you have a KraftMaid paver driveway in Torrance and a section is sinking, cracking, or pulling apart at the edges, the fix usually falls between $700 and $3,500 depending on how many pavers failed and what’s happening underneath them. We stock KraftMaid-compatible pavers and edging on our trucks, and in most Torrance neighborhoods we can match, reset, and re-compact a failed paver section in a single visit. Homeowners typically notice the problem after a winter rain, when a paver drops half an inch and becomes a trip hazard, or when a weed line opens a seam that wasn’t there before.
KraftMaid is best known for cabinetry, but their outdoor paver line appears in a number of Torrance driveways and walkways installed over the last decade. What fails on these driveways in Torrance is rarely the paver itself. It’s the base underneath: our clay-heavy soil expands and contracts with winter moisture, and without proper drainage channels, sections lift and shift. We see it constantly near the Del Amo corridor and older neighborhoods south of Carson Street where original grading has settled.
We’re an independent Torrance contractor. We’re not affiliated with KraftMaid, but we’ve matched, reset, and replaced enough of their pavers to know what fits and what doesn’t.
Which KraftMaid Models This Applies To

KraftMaid’s paver and driveway products come in three general families: the Holland/rectangle series (the most common in Torrance driveways), the tumbled/antique finish series (popular for walkways and patio borders), and the larger-format plank pavers used on some newer builds. The rectangle series runs 4″ x 8″ with a 60mm thickness on driveways and 40mm on walkways and patios. That thickness difference matters: a 40mm paver laid under vehicle weight will crack in three to five years in Torrance, which we’ve fixed more times than we can count.
To identify what you have, flip a loose paver and look at the bottom. KraftMaid molds a series code and date stamp into the underside of most pavers produced after 2015. If yours predates that, measure the paver height with a tape measure. 60mm (about 2⅜”) means it was rated for driveway use. 40mm means it was meant for foot traffic only.
On the OEM versus aftermarket question: KraftMaid discontinued some of their older tumbled color blends, and those exact shades are no longer manufactured. When that’s the case, we match from Belgard or Techo-Bloc equivalents that sit within a half-shade of the original. You need to see them side by side in daylight before committing, which is exactly what we do on site before any work starts. The dimensions are consistent across brands for the standard 4″ x 8″ format, but the surface texture differs. Mixing a smooth paver into a tumbled driveway looks wrong from ten feet away.

Signs Your KraftMaid Driveway & Pavers Are Failing
- Sinking in one or two spots. This is almost always base failure underneath, not paver failure. Torrance’s clay soil shifts when drainage is poor, and the base material washes out from under the pavers. You’ll see a shallow bowl form where water pools after rain.
- Seams widening in a line. If a straight crack opens across the driveway, the base has likely fractured along a joint or the edge restraint failed. Sand washes out of the seam, and the pavers slowly drift apart. Left alone for a year, you’ll get weeds and wobble.
- Chipped or spalled surface. KraftMaid’s tumbled finish pavers hold up well, but if someone sealed them with the wrong sealer (common with big-box acrylic sealers), moisture gets trapped and the surface pops off in small flakes. We see this on driveways sealed by other contractors in Torrance.
- Edge pavers tipping outward. The edge restraint (usually plastic or aluminum, sometimes concrete) has either shifted or was never installed at the right depth. Once the outside row tips, every row behind it eventually follows.
- Sand washing out of joints after rain. If you sweep sand back into the seams every season and it keeps disappearing, the base drainage is failing. This is the early warning sign before the entire section sinks.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

In Torrance, here’s what we quote for KraftMaid driveway and paver work:
- Spot repair (under 20 sq. ft., base intact): $250 – $700
- Section reset (20 – 100 sq. ft., new base material needed): $700 – $2,500
- Paver driveway installation (new, full project): $7,000 – $18,000
What drives the range is what we find when we pull the pavers. If the base is still solid, we reset the pavers, re-sand the joints, and add edge restraint where it’s missing. If the base has turned to mud, we’re excavating 6 to 8 inches, laying fresh aggregate, compacting in lifts, and then resetting. That’s the difference between a $400 spot fix and a $2,000 section rebuild.
Every quote we write in Torrance includes the parts, the labor, the base material, haul-away of old material if needed, and a written price before we begin. The work is covered by our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if anything we repaired or installed fails within a year of completion, we come back and make it right at no cost. No questions, no claims process.
DIY or Call Us?
Paver work is one of the few exterior projects where a careful homeowner can genuinely handle the simple part. If you have one sunken paver and the surrounding area is solid, lifting it, adding a bit of sand, and tapping it back level with a rubber mallet is reasonable work. If you have a whole section sinking, or your seams are spreading in a line, or water pools in the middle of your driveway after rain, the problem is under the surface and hand tools won’t reach it. We’ve also pulled up pavers in Torrance and found irrigation leaks, tree roots, and old construction debris that was never removed before the original install. Those jobs need an excavator and a real plan, not an afternoon with a shovel.

FAQs

A properly installed KraftMaid paver driveway in Torrance lasts 25 to 35 years for the pavers themselves, but the base underneath needs re-leveling about every 10 to 15 years because our clay soil moves with seasonal moisture. The pavers rarely fail. The ground beneath them does. Call (424) 337-6939 if your driveway is showing age, and we’ll tell you if it’s a base issue or something simpler.
Yes, in most Torrance cases a failed section of paver driveway can be repaired without replacing the whole surface, as long as the pavers themselves aren’t broken. We remove the affected area, rebuild the base, and reset the original pavers. If some pavers are cracked, we match replacements. Full replacement only makes sense when more than 40% of the surface has failed or the original install skipped base compaction entirely. Call (424) 337-6939 for an honest read on which path fits your driveway.
A spot repair typically takes 3 to 5 hours on site, including base work and compaction. A full section rebuild with excavation and new aggregate takes one to two days depending on the size and whether we’re hand-tamping or bringing in a plate compactor. We’ll give you a written timeline with your written price before we start. Reach us at (424) 337-6939 to schedule the estimate.
We stock the standard 4″ x 8″ KraftMaid-compatible rectangle pavers in the three most common Torrance color blends, plus edge restraint, sand, and base material on our trucks. For the less common tumbled finishes and the larger plank format, we order from our supplier and typically have material in hand within 48 hours. Call (424) 337-6939 and we’ll tell you whether your specific paver is something we already carry.
